NAR’s new series, Level Up: The Real Story from REALTORS®, premieres with a two-part episode on fair housing with Bryan Greene, NAR VP of Policy Advocacy, hosting a discussion with Alexia Smokler, NAR Director of Fair Housing Policy and Programs; Sher Powers, 2023 President of the Tennessee REALTORS® Association; and Jennifer Stevenson, 2022 Fair Housing Policy Committee Chair. This is part 2 of the discussion.
In Level Up, “Fair Housing” Part 2, the group engages in a candid conversation about the history and current issues with appraisals and discrimination in housing. The group talks about the aftermath of the 2019 NY Newsday investigation of agent discrimination and what NAR is doing today to educate members. Initiatives include implicit bias training, Fair Haven immersive online simulation testing and the At Home With Diversity educational programs. In addition, NAR has joined the Black Homeownership Collaborative’s “3 by 30” initiative with partners such as the Mortgage Bankers Association, National Fair Housing Alliance and the National Urban League to help bridge the 30 point gap that still exists in Black and White homeownership with the goal of getting 3 million new Black homeowners by 2030.
