In June’s edition of Level Up: The Real Story from REALTORS® Jessica Lautz, NAR’s Deputy Chief Economist and VP of Research discusses innovative ways to advance homeownership in today’s market shortage with Danielle Blake, Chief of Commercial, Miami REALTORS® and Randy Day, 2022 President, Utah Association of REALTORS® and President of Presidio Anasazi Realty Moab.
Although from two very different and unique real estate markets, they share the same barriers to homeownership, a shortage of buildable land and restrictive zoning and planning ordinances that inhibit development.
Danielle Blake shares how the Miami REALTORS® cut through the red tape for housing affordability and are making strides with the help of a NAR Community Outreach Grant which allowed them to build a container home prototype to study and advocate for regulatory changes. Their 6-year steadfast advocacy work resulted in permitting the use of non-conforming lots and creating an expedited review process, enabling container homes for Accessory Dwelling Units.
Randy Day explains how he spends his time trying to convince local government zoning and environmental officials to release some of the 97% public land for development of much needed housing in his Moab, Utah market.
