NAR encourages state and local associations to establish Legal Action Programs of their own. Most state associations have already done so, and in some cases local associations have also established programs. Associations use a variety of mechanisms to fund these programs, such as annual allocation of dues, special assessments, allocation of any year-end surplus or the interest earned on the general fund.
The NAR Legal Action Program places weight on the views and actions of a state and local association, and state association programs may take a similar approach. Therefore, even where a state or local association has not established a Legal Action Program, we encourage associations to develop a procedure to examine cases and make recommendations to the state association or to NAR for their consideration when evaluating requests brought to their Legal Action Program.
