The Legal Action Program is overseen by the Legal Action Committee, which receives and evaluates requests for financial assistance and NAR’s amicus participation in litigation of significance to real estate-related matters nationally, the operation of a trade association and private property rights. Financial assistance is available to litigants to pay for legal fees, costs, and expenses. The Amicus Brief Advisory Board, a subcommittee of the Legal Action Committee, receives and evaluates requests for NAR’s participation as amicus curiae in filing a “friend of the court” brief to share information and expertise on the legal issues involved in the case. Cases must clearly evidence the potential to have a national impact as support will not typically be awarded where the impact of the litigation is limited to the parties of the case.
