Two men have been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2019 killing of Minneapolis real estate agent Monique Baugh.
In June, Berry Alexander Davis, 42, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Cedric Lamont Berry, 42, of Minneapolis, were convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Baugh, 28, on Dec. 31, 2019. A judge this week sentenced both men to life in prison.
Police say that both men were part of a group that arranged for a fake showing to lure Baugh, a sales associate with Kris Lindahl Real Estate, to a home in Maple Grove, Minn., on New Year’s Eve in 2019. They then were accused of kidnapping her in a rental truck that pulled up to the home. Baugh was later found in a nearby alley with multiple gunshot wounds and duct tape on her wrists. She died a short time later at the hospital.
Monique’s mother, Wanda Williams Baugh, told the court prior to the men’s sentencing: “My daughter came face to face with pure evil.”
Then men were also convicted of attempted second-degree murder for trying to kill Baugh’s boyfriend in a separate attack earlier that day.
Both defendants continued to maintain their innocence at the sentencing hearing. “I hate that you guys had to go through this, and I pray that the truth comes out,” Berry told the family during the court hearing.
Two other people have been charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in connection with the case. Lyndon Wiggins, 36, and Elsa Segura, 29, who have been accused of using a burner phone to set up the fake home showing, are still awaiting trial.
