All About Ethics
Full of energy, Michelle Doherty, 29, pivots easily from real estate to organizing YPN events to volunteering with Childhelp, an organization dedicated to prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Recently, she has also focused on getting agents to recognize the importance of NAR’s Code of Ethics. “It’s truly a differentiator between us and regular licensed agents,” says Doherty, now chair of her local YPN. To make professional standards memorable and fun, her group organized a game show–style event in which young professionals must decide which of three scenarios is the ethics breaker. “If they vote incorrectly, we talk about why without being punitive. You don’t know what you don’t know. This way we can educate them, and they can educate others in the real estate community.”
