The pivotal moment in Joshua James’ career wasn’t at the closing table or in a tough negotiation. It was when his wife, Emilee, was put on bed rest for five weeks in 2017 while pregnant with their third child. In addition to running his real estate business and maintaining their rental properties, James, 29, took on primary responsibility for their two toddlers and worked to keep Emilee’s spirits up. “I realized I was working a lot and needed to be home more for my kids even under normal circumstances. I decided to grow a team so that when something happens [at home], I can be there 100%.” After Judah was born, James built up a three--person team. Today, whiled focusing his days on real estate, he keeps an eye on the clock. Those who call after 6:30 p.m. are sent to voicemail and hear: “As a promise to my family, I will return your call the next day except in urgent situations.”
