Taking the Longer View
Anna McGee, 29, learned discipline from an early age. “I’m one of six kids, and my dad set fair goals for us: Get a B average, play a sport or instrument, get a job, and don’t complain about chores, and you’ll get a car when you turn 16.” McGee opted for a 1999 black Toyota RAV4 that she dubbed “Tortilla” —and she never forgot that “discipline now, reward later” mindset. Consistent strategy and evaluation are important, she says, but so is putting in the extra effort. Truckee, located in the Sierra Nevada mountains, draws many weekend and holiday skiers. She navigates the steep terrain to place open house signs where visitors can see them from the road, and she markets her open houses at least five days in advance. “My strategy is to get them in the door and turn the qualified leads into customers within that small window of time.”
