Donald H. Treadwell, Sr.

President of the National Association of REALTORS® - 1984

Donald H. Treadwell* was the President of Treadwell Real Estate in Southgate, Michigan. He served 16 years as a national director and five years as an Executive Committee Member. He also held a variety of memberships and chairmanships on committees at the national level, including the Professional Standards Committee, Ad Hoc Committee to Review the Code of Ethics, State and Board Leadership Advisory Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and the Legal Action Committee.

Active at the state and local level, Treadwell was president of the Michigan Association of REALTORS® in 1959 and of the Down River Board of REALTORS® in 1954. He also was a director of the Detroit Board of REALTORS® for nine years. In 1965, Treadwell was named REALTOR® of the Year by the Michigan Association and received the honor from the Down River board in 1965 and again in 1977.

Treadwell belonged to several of the Association’s affiliated organizations, including the American Institute of Appraisers (AIREA), in which he held an MAI (Member, Appraisal Institute) designation; the American Society of Real Estate Counselors (ASREC), in which he held a CRE (Counselor in Real Estate), the Farm and land Institute (FLI), and the American Chapter of the International Real Estate Federation (AC/IREF). He was also a past president of the Appraisal Committee of the International Federation.

Long active in civic and business affairs, Treadwell was past president of the Grosse Ile Board of Education, past Chairman of the Grosse Ile Zoning Board of Appeals and charter chairman of the Wyandotte Rehabilitation Commission. Treadwell also was director of the National Bank of Wyandotte-Taylor. He held both a bachelor’s and a law degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. An active member of St. James Episcopal Church, Treadwell and his wife, Marjorie, resided on Grosse Ile, where they raised their six children.
