Advanced Issues and Structures of 1031 Exchanges

This webinar will update you on the most recent changes relating to 1031 exchanges as well as cover advanced issues concerning IRC §1031. If you invest in real estate and/or represent investor clients that engage in 1031 exchanges, this webinar is for you. Solutions for the most challenging transactions will be covered in this webinar.

  • Attendees will learn about combining a 1031 exchange with Internal Revenue Code section 121 (the home gain exclusion) and how properties can be converted to and from investment properties.

Assisting Client and Avoiding Pitfalls in 1031 Exchanges

This webinar will discuss common misunderstandings surrounding 1031 exchanges as well as mistakes that are frequently made. The webinar is specifically designed to help real estate agents assist their clients with their 1031 exchanges and to help them avoid those mistakes.

  • Attendees will learn about the most common mistakes made in 1031 exchanges.
  • Attendees will be able to take this knowledge and assist their clients to avoid those mistakes.
This virtual summit will not focus on international exchanges. U.S. property can only be exchanged for U.S. property. Accordingly, if you’re inquiring about selling U.S. property and buying out of the country (or selling foreign property and buying U.S. property) that is not permitted.

Jim Miller

Jim Miller is an Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Investment Property Exchange Services, Inc. (“IPX1031®”), a full-service exchange facilitator for all types of §1031 tax deferred exchanges. IPX1031® is a subsidiary of Fidelity National Financial, Inc., a publicly traded company which owns seven large title insurance companies. Prior to joining IPX1031®, Jim practiced law for 14 years and represented buyers, sellers, home builders, and developers in commercial and residential real estate transactions ranging from multi-million-dollar shopping centers to single-family homes.

The States of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington have certified Jim to teach continuing education classes to their real estate licensees. He is also a LandU education instructor for the REALTORS® Land Institute as well as a frequent lecturer to attorneys, CPAs, financial planners, real estate brokers and agents about 1031 exchanges.

Jim received a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from The Pennsylvania State University and a Juris Doctorate from the Villanova University School of Law. He is a member of the Bar of the State of New York and a registered In-House Counsel in the State of Arizona.
