You don’t have to spend a fortune to give your outdoor space more impact. Shelby Greene, studio stylist at furniture retailer Living Spaces, offers some tips to transform the yard—whether big or small—on a tight budget.
Lounging space: “Create a space where you and your guests can relax and soak up the nice weather,” Greene says. “To turn a backyard into a stylish oasis that’s budget-friendly, pay attention to little details. For example, making the seating comfortable and curating a corner of the backyard with matching seats, coffee tables, side tables, cushions, and throw pillows will create a moment for your backyard.”
Accessorize: Greene also suggests adding a dash of luxury with stylish vases, planters, and trays. “These little details don’t cost much and bring a look together to create a functional and relaxing outdoor oasis,” she says.
Light it up: “Incorporating some fun and practical lighting is one of the easiest ways to elevate your backyard and create a relaxing feeling,” Greene says. “It doesn’t take many lights to transform an outdoor space into a beautiful and vibrant area, especially at night.”
Define the area: “Create easily defined areas within your backyard for activities like cooking, eating, and relaxing,” Greene suggests. “The separation of a dining space, lounge area, a place to grill, and an area for kids to play will create organization and a natural flow. Creating different rooms within your backyard will make it easier to feel relaxed and as though it is your sanctuary outside of the home … even if your home is only 10 feet away.”
Statement plants: Add plant stands throughout the backyard to incorporate color. Ceramic planter stands can help you create statement pieces in your yard.
