Add a Color Punch to That All-White Bathroom

You may be surprised where designers want to see color the most.

More color is entering bathroom design, as the all-white floors, tiles and cabinets are growing more blah and forgettable in the eyes of designers. A recent survey from the home remodeling site Fixr found that more than a quarter of designers called “all-white bathrooms” as one of the trends they most hope will go away in 2023.

Instead, designers say it’s all about adding more color into bathroom design this year. And nearly 60% of design experts think colorful shower tiles are the trendiest way to do it.

Showers are often the focal point in the bathroom, especially when enclosed in glass. Homeowners who want to really show it off may opt for colorful ceramic tile.

That could be more subtle, like with a black-and-white contrast, such as a black penny tile as an accent wall, mixed with white subway tiles on the other shower walls.

But homeowners also are going bolder with shower tiles in blue, green or even pink.

If adding color to the shower may seem too much of a commitment, designers also called out other popular bathroom design trends for 2023—colorful cabinets or wallpaper.

A colorful cabinet—in blue or pink—can create a smaller focal point for a bathroom.

Wallpaper has been gaining popularity throughout the home and can also infuse color and pattern into an otherwise all-white space. Homeowners can then pull colors from the wallpaper to use for their towels and other accessories.

Alternatively, paint can instantly color up an all-white bathroom. Designers say softer colors—like greens, blues and blush-colored pinks—tend to work best.
