Gil Gillenwater founded Rancho Feliz Charitable Foundation, which supports abandoned children and the elderly in the Agua Prieta, Mexico, a border town 200 miles from his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. Just as important as addressing the physical poverty, Gillenwater has created a way to address the poverty of purpose felt by many Americans. His volunteer exchange program brought more than 1,000 volunteers to Agua Prieta last year to work in the food kitchen and build new homes.
