People-to-people relationships are essential for success as a global agent. You will rely on your network to get answers, find experts, discover new opportunities, and share referrals.
Cover All the Bases
1. The CIPS Network
Your CIPS designation gives you access to an amazing resource: other CIPS designees from 52 countries. They may be able to answer many of your questions and share helpful advice. They’re also an exceptional source for referral business. There are several excellent ways to find and connect with other CIPS designees:
- Network on the closed Facebook group (Official Group: NAR CIPS Designees)
- Use the online directory www.nar.realtor/cips-search
- Attend the REALTORS® Conference & Expo www.nar.realtor/conference
- Contact a Global Ambassador www.nar.realtor/global/global-ambassador
- Explore Cooperating Associations outside the U.S. www.nar.realtor/intlnet.nsf/Home?OpenForm
2. Related Experts
Since global real estate transactions often require highly specialized knowledge and expertise, it’s essential to assemble a team of experts who can support your clients. The CIPS network is one of the best ways to obtain recommendations for experts in:
- Currency exchange
- Financing
- Immigration/visas
- Legal issues
- Taxes
- Translation
Once you’ve assembled your “team,” consider ways to support one another in your marketing efforts. Reach out regularly to remain top-of-mind and learn about new issues that may impact clients.
3. Local Network
While your global “team” might be scattered across other cities, look for ways to build a referral network in your immediate vicinity. This might include local attorneys and lenders with ties to an immigrant community, members of your chamber of commerce, or owners of ethnic restaurants, food markets, or other businesses with global ties.
Connect With Other CIPS Designees on Facebook
In 2018, 2,300+ members shared nearly 380 referrals in 70 countries.
Networking With Other NAR Designees
Consider earning another designation that enhances your global strategy and expands your networking opportunities. For example:
- GREEN: NAR's Green designation supports agents who are building a practice around green and energy-efficient homes. www.green.realtor
- RSPS: If you're focused on resort, recreational, and vacation destinations, you may be interested in the RSPS certification. www.nar.realtor/education/designations-and-certifications/rsps
- SRES®: The Seniors Real Estate Specialist® designation is an excellent option for building your business around clients ages 50+. www.sres.realtor
