Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Schrum became a volunteer firefighter when he was 17, and for the last 19 years has put his safety on the line to help victims of fires, car accidents and other emergencies. He is currently the Deputy Fire Chief and oversees three fire stations and more than 100 firefighters, who respond to more than 650 calls a year.
Matthew Schrum was also a 2000 Good Neighbor Award Honoree.
