Edwards is the driving force behind Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity, which has built 46 houses during her nine years of service. She helped the organization buy 27 building sites to build a subdivision that will be completed this year. As a result of her leadership, the organization has grown from building four houses per year to building 12 in 2004. Edwards was also responsible for moving the organization from a one-room office in a local church to its own freestanding facility, which she won at a courthouse auction, convincing others not to bid against her cause.
