As founder of Glen Rock Poverty Awareness Project, Fernandez works closely with local schools to select one project each year to help break the cycle of poverty. Since 2006, she raised more than $140,000 to build a Habitat for Humanity house, purchase water pumps for Africa, and provide 3,500 mosquito nets for earthquake victims in Haiti. She is currently working with nonprofit From Houses to Homes (GRPAP's charity for 2011) to help build homes and a school in Guatemala.
