Membership for Appraisers
REALTOR® membership is available to individuals engaged in the real estate business. This includes individuals licensed or certified as appraisers. REALTOR® membership enables appraisers to apply for Multiple Listing Service (MLS) participation and access to the full complement of MLS data and services. This includes active, sold, expired, and withdrawn listings as well as statistical reports and third party public record aggregators.
The National Association of REALTORS® dues structure ensures a Local Association of REALTORS® determines the level of the local dues, and is responsible for the local budget. The National Association of REALTORS® does not transfer local assets to a national fund.
The Appraisal Foundation
The National Association of REALTORS®, an Affiliate Sponsor of The Appraisal Foundation, is designated as an “Appointing Affiliate Sponsor” and has the right to appoint a member to The Appraisal Foundation Board of Trustees. The National Association of REALTORS® has been an active participant in The Appraisal Foundation from its inception and participates in The Appraisal Foundation Advisory Council (TAFAC).
RAA and GAA Designations
The National Association of REALTORS® has an Appraisal Designation Program. REALTOR® Appraiser members may earn an RAA (Residential Accredited Appraiser), GAA (General Accredited Appraiser), or both designations. The designation criteria is linked to exceeding the minimum education and experience requirements defined by the Appraiser Qualifications Board of The Appraisal Foundation.
A “Fast Track” application and qualification process is available to REALTOR® Appraiser members holding appraisal designations from:

- International Association of Assessing Officers
- International Right of Way Association
- Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers

- Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
The application fee is $100.00 per designation, and annual dues are only $100.00 for each designation.
Legislative and Regulatory Activities
The National Association of REALTORS®, representing over 1.2 million members involved in real estate brokerage, appraisal, auction, property management, counseling, development, and other aspects of real estate, is America’s largest trade association. There are more than 1,200 local associations/boards, and 54 state and territory associations. The National Association of REALTORS® Government Affairs division works to develop, advance, and implement the federal legislative objectives of the REALTOR® Association. They work with Congress and the Executive Branch through lobbying, policy development, political field representatives, political communications and grassroots advocacy. The REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) is the nation’s largest contributor of direct contributions to federal candidates.
Credit Union
Members of the National Association of REALTORS® are eligible for membership in the REALTORS® Federal Credit Union. The credit union offers a variety of banking services for business and personal banking. Credit Union members have access to over 30,000 ATMs and more than 5,000 Shared Branch locations nationwide, as well as checking and savings accounts, Mobile Banking, the REALTOR® Credit Card, competitive rates on auto, home and business loans and more. Services for businesses include commercial real estate loans and business lines of credit. REALTOR® owned businesses and family members are also eligible for membership.
REALTOR Benefits®
The REALTOR Benefits® Program is available to REALTOR® Appraiser members of the National Association of REALTORS®. Benefits include Personal Insurance options, discounts on Electronics and Mobile Technology, Travel and Automotive discounts, and Errors and Omissions insurance.
NAR Library
The National Association of REALTORS® is home to the world’s largest real estate library, covering a wide range of topics related to residential and commercial real estate. The collections include digital books, real estate journals, in digital and print format, and journals in digital format through EBSCO. EBSCO is a database with the full text of over 6,000 trade journals, magazines, and newsletters, including the Appraisal Journal and Journal of Real Estate Research.
Realtors Property Resource®
REALTOR® Appraiser members are able to access Realtors Property Resource® (RPR®). RPR® is a member benefit offered exclusively to REALTORS® at no additional cost. RPR® services every segment of the real estate industry: Residential, Commercial, Brokers, Appraisers, Associations and MLSs. RPR® is a national database of property data for every parcel in the United States. There are over 160 million property records, built from public record and assessment information, with added layers of data for zoning, permits, mortgage, liens, and schools. Participating Multiple Listing Services have their active and off-market data integrated with the national data sets. RPR® also has a set of appraiser tools. REALTOR® Appraiser members have access to every record in the country, regardless of their local association affiliation.
Governance Structure
The National Association of REALTORS® includes appraisers in their policy making procedure and involves appraisers in decision making. Under the National Association of REALTORS® governance structure, the Real Property Valuation Committee is part of the Business Specialties Group but also reports to the Public and Federal Issues Group. Leaders of the Real Property Valuation Committee and the Real Property Valuation Forum participate in the National Association of REALTORS® Legislative Meetings held annually. Appraisers are involved at the local, state and national level of REALTOR® Associations and Boards.
